Job Interview Tips

You need to be familiar with your resume before you are interviewed for a job. According to executive Diana Legere, she had interviewed several people who did not have any idea about the contents of their resume. Resumes serve as an advertising campaign, and you must read it as well as make sure to support each claim. An easy way to be removed from the competition is through lack of integrity.

Based on a recent study by the University of North Texas, heavy regional accents can have a negative effect on hiring decisions. Fifty-six executive recruiters listened to the recordings of 10 men from different regions with college degrees. They ranked candidates from Minnesota and California as the most employable due to their neutral accents. The least employable were a doctoral candidate from North Georgia and a candidate with a doctorate degree from New Jersey.

Diana said that the main factors employers consider before they extend a job offer are in the control of jobseekers. For example, if you examine a product which claims superiority but it is presented in an unattractive package, you will not buy it. In fact, there is a tendency that you will purchase an inferior product having a remarkable package.

’Tell me about yourself’ is one of the most dreaded interview questions. Employers are not easy to please and they only want a job candidate with skills and a professional image. You can get an interview by giving careful attention to the creation of your resume. You must remember that a resume never buys a job but buys an appointment for interview. You will get a job offer by handling the interview properly. Your skills can be interpreted easily by a professional resume writer in an accurate assessment which fits the position you will be applying for. When you have accomplished this, the interview stage will not be difficult for you.

Nonverbal behaviours like coughing nervously, licking one’s lips, restricting hand gestures, and blushing can make job candidates project the appearance of lying during interviews. This is based on a book by Peter Thomson entitled ‘Secrets of Communication: Be Heard and Get Results’. It is obvious that you must not lie in interviews, and exhibiting such behaviours can make you appear dishonest though you are completely truthful. Two of the most important nonverbal gestures in an interview include a forceful voice and smile. Frequently, employers cite lack of enthusiasm as one of the main reasons for not hiring a candidate. The best way to show enthusiasm is to be consistent and always smile. The greatest way to show confidence is through a voice that is forceful and strong.

Taking notes of an interview is discouraged by most experts. There are some people who benefit from writing interview responses as well as reading them before interviews. You must not memorise your responses since they will sound over-rehearsed. You must not take notes of the interview but focus instead on the copy of your resume to promote your key points. However, if you think that you really must have notes, keep them discreet. Also, you must not fret about not saying all your key comments and phrases.
